School starts

Hannah's first day of school. Her teacher is Mrs. Clements but she had a baby a few day before school started, so her substitute has been Mrs. Kolby, who has been great. She is very excited to have her real teacher come back soon. Hannah loves school.

William started Kindergarten this year and absolutely loves it!! He was so excited to finally be able to go to school. He informed me he is the tallest in his class besides his teacher. He is a head taller than most of the kids in his class.

All lined up on the first day of school ready to go into class.

Katie

So I came to post about Katie turning one and I found a post I had not posted yet about her at 11 months, so here is that post first.

Katie is now 11 months old. Her 7th and 8th teeth are coming in, and she has discovered standing on her own. She loves it and it seems like she treats it like a game, seeing how long she can stand up each time, waiting for the praise of everyone around her. I can't believe that she is almost a year old!!

Katie turned 1 on August 8th. We had a pancake birthday party the night before with my family, and Ben made some great pancakes.

I wasn't feeling so good on Katie's birthday so I let Hannah make the cake all by herself, except the oven part. I think the cake turned out great and Katie loved it!!

All of Jake's family came for her little party. We had a great time. After cake and ice cream all of the kids got out the High School Musical music and had a dance outside. They were all so fun to watch.

Things I love about Katie...
I love that she is happy all the time, (as long as she is fed and rested) and it is so easy to get her smiling and giggling.
She LOVES music, and whenever she hears music in the house somewhere she will stop what she is doing and say, "daa, daa" and start her little wiggling. She loves to dance.
Her first steps where over the 24th of July and withing a few weeks she was walking everywhere. She loves being able to walk, sometimes she will just start walking in circles.
It was nice that she mastered the stairs quickly since we have plenty of them in our house.
She loves dogs and gives her stuffed dogs plenty of love. When ever peaches comes over she goes crazy, and peaches is so patient with her.
She has a special blanket that she likes to carry around, and she loves to be tickled.
At her one year appointment she was in the 95% with her weight and over 100% when her height, which means she is very fun to cuddle and she actually likes to cuddle. I love it!
She is the greatest and we love her so much!!

Highland Fling

We went to the highland fling parade at the beginning of the month. I have never seen a parade with more candy. The kids loved it.

Here is most of the candy we got. See the excitement on William's face? Or maybe it is the sugar high he is probably on. We are still trying to get to the bottom of the bowl.

July

On July 20th, our sweet Martha went into the MTC and will be serving in Omaha, Nebraska and the Winter Quarters visitor's Center. What a fun mission!! We will miss her, but are very much enjoying her letters.

The 24th of July

We went to Nevada for the 24th of July. The kids had a fun time riding on the float in the Parade.

John Deer tractor "I think I can"
New Holland tractor " I know I can"
Get it? haha. (My dad sells New Holland.)
Just a little plug for New Holland.

All the cousins.

There was a little program after the parade that my family participated in. We did a few pioneer songs, and stories, and the kids did a little heel-toe polka.

Swimming

We have loved going swimming this summer! It has been nice to see the kids get more brave each time we go... even Katie. The first time we put her in the water she cried the whole time. Now she loves to relax and watch the kids play.

Fourth of July

We had a great Fourth of July. We had Lacy and Ben over on Friday for a little Pizza on the BBQ... yummy!!

Played some kickball

Slept out in the backyard...

Had a little fun on the slip'n slide...

There is Katie with her tongue sticking out again...

Played some games

On Sunday we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house, had a BBQ, roasted some marshmallows, had some fireworks and rediscovered that my girls don't like the loud noises. They loved the smores though.

Notice William's shoes. He couldn't fine matches, so this is what he wore all day.

Then we slept out in the tent again in their backyard and woke up to Grandma's famous pancakes.
We had a great weekend!!

June

What have we been up too?

Swimming lessons with cousins. All the kids did such a great job, and it was nice to get it done at the beginning of the summer so the kids can use their skills for the rest of the summer.

William learned to ride a bike and loves to ride his tiny bike. We did get a bigger bike, but got the wrong size. He can't even get on his new bike by himself. So I help him on, he rides around for a little bit and then when he decides he wants to get off, he just heads for the grass and dives off.

Katie is such a cutie. She loves to stick out her tongue. In fact, she sticks it out and can't get it back in again, without gagging. It has been out for hours at a time. It's a pretty long tongue. One day we were outside and she stuck her tongue out and wouldn't put it back in again. Pretty soon it was all dried out.
She had gotten better at controlling her tongue.

Ragnar 2011
Jake and I were able to run the Wasatch back Ragnar race again this year with some friends from St. George. We had such a blast. Our team name was "Couples Therapy" #888. and our slogan... "Why pay for therapy when we have Ragnar... This is our couples therapy"
It is great therapy... but I did decide that running a ragnar is a lot like having a baby. While you are in the moment of it all you are thinking to yourself, "why in the world am I doing this. This is crazy... I am so tired and in so much pain." After it is all done you think, oh, that wasn't so bad... lets sign up for next year. We did have a great time!!

While we were running we saw this team running. They were a company team and while there were running they were advertising for their company which was backcountry.com. When each member of the team would run they would carry or use a piece of outdoor equipment. This guy ran up the summit at Jordanelle Reservoir, which is long and steep, while carrying a surf board!! Crazy!! Some would carry a big backpack while running, and one guy even carried a small tent, that was all put together, while running. But the craziest thing was when a guy went uphill about 7 or 8 miles on asphalt in cross country skies. We overheard him say that by the end of the run/ski his feet were burning because of the friction against the road. It is people like this that make running this race so much fun.
