Great idea for dinner tonight!!

A few weeks ago the Jake was involved with a youth activity where he told about the culture in Taiwan. For part of it he bought some duck eggs to show to the kids. I guess they eat duck eggs a lot in Taiwan. They call them 1,000 year old eggs. The way they would make them years ago is they would soak them in horse urine with the shell on, and then they would peel them like a boiled egg and eat them. Fortunately now they don't soak them in horse urine. They soak them in vinegar, and some other things that I don't know. Anyway, I never worked up the courage to try it, and for some reason I don't feel like I am missing out on anything.

Kids say the cutest things

So I didn't end up making any salsa. The day I was going to make it, I did not have green peppers and I did not feel like loading the kids up in the car to go to the store just to buy green peppers, (due to my last experience of taking my three kids to the store.) You can't have salsa without green peppers, so I made tomato sauce instead. The reason I am posting this is because I just read a post on someone's blog about onions and crying and it reminded me of when I was trying to cut onions for the sauce. My mom had sent some onions out from her garden and I was using those. They were the strongest smelling onions that I had ever cut before. Tears were streaming down my cheeks. It was so bad that it was making me gag. Hannah was watching me wondering why I was crying while I was cutting onions. So I explained to her that I was not sad, it was the onions that were making me cry and mentioned that it would be a lot better if I could just close my eyes while I cut the onions. So she asked, "Why can't you just close your eyes?" I said, "If I closed my eyes while I cut the onions, I would probably cut my finger off." Then she said, "How about you close your eyes so you won't cry, and I will watch your fingers so you won't cut them."

It would have been interesting to see how that turned out.

Salsa recipe

I have a lot of tomatoes and tomorrow I am going to be making and canning salsa. The only thing that I am missing is a salsa recipe. Does anyone have any really good salsa recipes? Or tips on canning salsa? There is nothing better than a really good homemade salsa. Don't you agree?

Week in Nevada

Last month Hannah and William were able to spend some time with Grandma Jeanne and Grandpa Gilbert in Nevada. They had a great time. Every night they would call and tell us what they had been up too. My mom kept them so busy with so many fun things, I was afraid they would not want to come back home. They played with cousins, helped with irrigating the garden and grandma's yard, they rode the four wheeler, gathered the eggs, went swimming, jumped on the trampoline, played with the kittens... Grandma and Grandpa bought a little ford truck that the kids could drive around in. I think that this truck was one of the favorite things of the week. They were even able to drive this truck in the 24th parade. Hannah's favorite part of the whole week was playing with my Barbies. I told her to ask my mom to get out my old Barbies, and that is the first thing that Hannah wanted to do. Hannah had a great time playing with the Barbies all week. You can see in the picture that Hannah dressed them all up, then lined them up so they could watch a movie with her. Yes, me and my sisters had a lot of Barbies. Hannah was in heaven with all of the Barbies. Seeing her play with the Barbies brought back a lot of great memories playing Barbies with my sisters. Hannah and William had a great time. Thanks mom and dad for taken such great care of my kids.

4th of July

We had a great 4th of July. We started out on Friday morning at 6:00 am. I have always wanted to go to the balloon fest in Provo. I thought this year was a good time since I knew Hannah and William would enjoy it too, so, we got the kids up and headed out. I think they had a good time despite the fact that they were up way to early. If you are wondering, yes those are ear plugs in Williams ears. My kids don't like loud noises and so all through the balloon fest and parade they both wore ear plugs and enjoyed the day a lot more.
We then went to the parade. Hannah loved all of the Princess floats. They both loved the big Curious George balloon.



























On Saturday we decided to go up to Timp. caves. I never knew that a caves could be sold out, but we got up there and, yes, they were sold out. So we went on a little hike instead.














Then we headed to the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point. William loved seeing all of the dinosaurs and the kids loved digging in the sand for dinosaur bones.















We had a great 4th of July!!!

Hannah's Hair cut

I have always really liked long hair. This probably came from my mom, who always kept my sisters and my hair long growing up. Most of our childhood, our hair was at our waist. So, I have kept Hannah's hair long. The problem that we had was that Hannah did not like to have her hair combed out or done up. Her hair was always tangled, she has a tender head, and whenever I did her hair in a braid or ponytail, by the end of the day she would have taken it out and it would be all tangled up again. So, I went and had the kids pictures taken on Tuesday (so if I missed Hannah's long hair, I could look at the pictures), and today I went and had Laura cut Hannah's hair. This is a before picture of Hannah and her long hair.

This is a between picture. We decided to cut enough hair to donate to Locks of Love. Hannah was excited that some other little girl might be able to wear her hair.







This is the after picture. Laura did a great job cutting Hannah's hair. The first thing that Hannah said when she looked in the mirror for the first time was, I look like Olivia, (her friend from St George). She loves her new hair cute and keeps going into the bathroom to look at her hair in the mirror.

Trip to Lund

At the beginning of June we took a little trip to Lund for my brother's graduation and we were able to stay for a week. We had a great time. The kids loved helping grandma Jeanne gather eggs from the chickens, ride four-wheelers, and play with cousins. We even found a baby blow snake. Ben picked it up for the kids to see and asked if they wanted to touch it. Hannah immediately stuck out her hands to hold the snake, but her mom who really doesn't like snakes, wouldn't let her hold the snake, but Hannah was satisfied with just petting the snake. The kids were fascinated with this baby snake and were concerned about where the mommy and daddy snake were. So Ben took the snake into the sage brush so that the baby snake could find its mom and dad again.
